KAICHIDHAM BOUTIQUE HOME STAY
Status : Completed
Site : Kaichidham, Uttarakhand
Scope : Architecture and Interior
The 1500 sq foot bulding is an extension to an existing boutique home stay perched atop a 1:4 steep mountain in the Kumaon region of Nainital. The building is built across a ridge and faces the beautiful forested valleys.
The primary function is that of a dining and a kitchen with a verandah sit out that overlooks the beautiful forested valleys. This space doubles up as a multpupore hall during religious gathering events which are prominent in the region.
The sliver of building is built along the thin contours, which are almmost 1:3 or 1:4 steep slope. The butterfly roof stands out when seen along the section of the mountain, with its views opening up with a glazed facade towards the west ,mnmerging the inside and outside and borrwing the viewds of the mouuntains as if it were part of the building. The retaining wall is built from the excavated materials of the mountain, such that one feels that they are part of the mountain. The pine wood false ceiling adds warmth to the space and gives a semlbance of being below the canopy of the trees of the temperate himalayan region. The light from the setting sun filter beautifully into the space through the fenestration details, creating an array of shadows on the slate flooring.
A small insert within a beautiful terrain.
